ECOisland of Sabaudia

The ECOisland of Sabaudia is a revitalization project of the area surrounding Sabaudia in Italy. The town is located in the Latina region of Italy, south of Rome. This vast rural landscape used to be swamps, infested with mosquitoes carrying malaria. But during the fascist reign of Mussolini, the swamps were drained and converted to rural areas. But the strain of the cultivation has worn out the landscape and polluted the canal that drain Latina. So now drastic mesures need to be taken.
This project suggests, converting the rural landscape surrounding Sabaudia and its lagunas, in to extensive wetlands, using the canalstructure and the texture of the fields as generators.
